Make The Most Of Open Enrollment

What is Open Enrollment?

Open enrollment is the yearly period when employees can enroll in their company-sponsored health insurance plans. It’s also the time when they can freely make changes to their plan selections.

The exact dates for open enrollment are specific to the employer. It’s often a two-week period sometime between October and December (Society for Human Resource Management).

What Are The Challenges?

Benefits packages can get pretty complex and health insurance plans change all the time. HR departments and insurance providers have a lot of information to communicate to employees during open enrollment. It’s difficult to cut through the day-to-day chaos and get employees the details they need to make informed decisions about their benefits.

Promotional products can help. Here's how:

1. Create Awareness

Kick off open enrollment with a giveaway to all eligible employees. Make it memorable and hand it out with benefits information packages.

2. Facilitate Understanding

Have employees sign and return a form that acknowledges they’re read and understand their new benefits information. When they return their form, hand out a giveaway. It’s a fundamental truth that people will take action when free stuff is on the line.

3. Encourage Participation

Most HR departments will invite employees to attend information sessions where insurance representatives explain the benefits packages and answer questions. Encourage attendance by having a prize drawing for all attendees.  Make these special to get people to show up.

4. Look Professional

For insurance providers, its important to look good when you're meeting with HR departments and benefits administrators - there's a lot on the line. The right branded apparel sends a professional message and instills confidence.
